Noted golf and sports artist Scott Medlock releases retrospective book, “Scott Medlock: Capturing the Moment”

Medlock crafted the picture of Tiger Woods’ playoff-forcing putt on the 72nd hole of the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines GC; Medlock will be at Torrey Pines GC this week serving as official artist of the Farmers Insurance Open

LA JOLLA, Calif. (January 29, 2010)Arnold Palmer may have put it best when he said “I suspect that there aren’t many homes and offices of serious golfers that don’t have a Scott Medlock painting hanging somewhere on the premises. Those who don’t are missing something.”

Simply put, Medlock is one of the most accomplished, recognizable artists in golf. He has captured some of the game’s grandest moments and its biggest stars, from Palmer and Tiger Woods to Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Fred Couples, Greg Norman and Chi Chi Rodriguez.

Medlock has brought together some of his most memorable golf images from the last 20 years, as well as paintings from many other sports, in his new book, “Scott Medlock: Capturing the Moment” (2009, Enfantino Publishing). The book, which includes a painting in which Medlock expertly conveys the emotion of Woods’ celebration following the putt he sank on the 72nd hole of the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course to force a playoff, is available for purchase this week in the Torrey Pines GC pro shop.

The book is available with two different covers – one featuring the Woods image and another depicting Palmer and Nicklaus walking side by side on the 10th fairway at Riviera Country Club. Nicklaus wrote the book’s foreword, and it contains a page of recognition from Palmer. Proceeds from sales of the book will benefit the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation and the Arnold Palmer Medical Center.

“The release of this book symbolizes the culmination of a lifelong dream for me,” Medlock said. “I’ve always enjoyed capturing the emotion and energy in golf and other sports, and I believe this book represents some of my best work. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to offer fans a collection of my favorite paintings, and also to benefit the charities of two people who have been very important to me, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.”

Medlock has been commissioned by the Century Club of San Diego to create the official artwork for the 2010 Farmers Insurance Open. He will be on site at Torrey Pines GC on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and is available for interviews.
